Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company
Though Leinie may be derided in some circles I must say we have enjoyed the creative beers coming out of this brewery in the recent years. The Leinenkugel family still owns part of the brewery and work hard to preserve their heritage. The brewery is in a beautiful location with a small river babbling through the property. We took a free tour and enjoyed the relaxed pace and smaller size of the group (compared to the Miller tour we had recently taken). The tour ends in the tasting area which is conveniently located in the Leinie Lodge (which is actually a huge gift shop).
The folks at Leinie are pretty sure that you should dress yourself, your house, car, boat, children and pets in Leinie logo-wear and they have an overwhelming selection to choose from. The Lodge was actually quite comfortable with a welcoming fireplace for the cooler months and a cheery patio for the warmer ones. But you can’t really settle in since they only allow a few samples per person. Caution: Signs to the brewery could be better located as we missed the main entrance and ended up in the service entrance. It was a slow afternoon so it wasn’t a problem but it might be on busier days.
