Ben and Jerry’s
The brightly colored and sparkling clean factory sits in a park-like setting nestled in the hills near Stowe. Get there early since the place fills up fast, especially in the summer. After you have signed up for your tour (nominal fee) explore the grounds as you wait. The tour consists of a short and funny “moovie” and a multi-level walk through part of the factory (elevators make the tour handicap accessible). We loved learning of the company’s support of small, family-owned dairy farmers and their insistence that the cows be hormone and chemical free. The tour ends with a yummy sample. Though Ben and Jerry no longer own the business the company is still sticking to the ideals of it’s founders. Be sure to wander across the lawn to the Flavor Graveyard. Caution: Call ahead to make sure they are making ice cream on the day of your visit!
