Adventures

George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park

Outdoor museum with over 100 dinosaur replicas, most of them life-sized, spread throughout the 5-acre grounds in realistic (but not scary) displays. Inside is a museum with real fossils and interactive exhibits. The park also has a play area, picnic area, food stand, gift shop, and an education center. I was disturbed to come across the outdoor display of Pleistocene mega-fauna and the indoor exhibit of mammoths since they did not coexist with dinosaurs. It would be fine to have the displays as long as the 60 million year difference in time periods was explained. Other than that I enjoyed my stroll through the park but I felt they could have had more interpretive signs on the grounds. Caution: Pick a day with good weather since most of the exhibits are outside.

Fort Buenaventura

Located on 88 acres near downtown is the restored fort of the first permanent Anglo-settlement in all of Utah. The original fort was established near the Weber River by Miles Goodyear in the early 1840s. The scenic site offers picnic areas, canoe rentals, hiking and biking trails, and a few campsites. We enjoyed wandering through the fort and hiking the trails. Weber County runs this park which has a small Visitor Center (but it is not always open). We did not stay here but were pleasantly surprised to find a small campground with hook-ups, dump station and bathrooms. We would look into camping here if we visited Ogden again.

Roosts

Century Park RV

The park is conveniently located right off of I-15 but expect some road noise. This large park is separated into two parts, one for long-term residents in the back and the other for shorter stays near the front. The grounds were nicely kept, with grass and shade trees though the bathhouse, laundry room and rec room were less than spotless. The camp store stocks some groceries and basic supplies. The staff was less than friendly during our stay. This park would be fine for an overnight stay. We will not stay there again.
