Eateries
Chuy’s
Located within walking distance of our RV park this Mexican food restaurant is funky, laid back fun with excellent food. Check out their happy hour in the bar area where they offer free chips, salsa and a fantastic queso dip. The staff is sassy and the decor irreverent but the food is serious and good-sized. Expect to wait but trust us, its worth it!

Guero’s
Granted its a bit pricey and they think a bit too highly of themselves but this place still exists because the food is good. The location doesn’t hurt either. This is the place on SoCo to see and be seen or if you’re more like us to grab a bite and a swallow. Try the sangria, its quite tasty and the Migas are wonderful anytime of day. We also dug the grab-it-yourself salsa bar with several different potencies to choose from plus you can always mix ‘em. As you might expect you probably won’t be seated right away but that’s OK, you can people watch while you wait. And boy, are there some people to watch…

Drinkeries
Continental Club
If you like live music then a visit to the Continental Club is a must. Located in the heart of the funky South Congress district (or SoCo as the locals say) the Continental isn’t fancy but it is serious about music. The place kicks off happy hour with a live band (often with no cover charge) and continues to rock into the wee hours. The bands are mostly some kind of alt-country and it is always fun!

Adventures
Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library and Museum
The impressive edifice on the campus of the University of Texas that holds the papers related to Johnson’s presidency also houses an informative look at the man himself. Unlike the other Presidential libraries in the country Johnson demanded that entrance be free of charge and it still is. It was a great introduction to the tall Texan since he was a bit before my time. Don’t miss the animatronic Lyndon in a corner on the second (or third) floor. The figure, clad in cowboy garb replete with hat, moves his hand and tilts his head to recordings of Lyndon telling his favorite humorous stories.

Pecan Grove RV Park
The most important thing this smallish RV park offers is location: within a few blocks are tasty restaurants, Zilker Park, Town Lake and a trolley stop for a free ride into downtown. Sites are spaced a nice distance apart under tall, old pecan trees and the park has clean restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. We stayed at the park for several weeks in 2007 and we loved it. We’re not sure how much longer the park will remain open since it is under pressure from developers who want to build condos there. We’d sure hate to see it go!
