Wet Dog Cafe
Wet Dog caught our eye as we walked along the waterfront, actually we heard it first as there was a small fun-loving crowd on the patio overlooking the Columbia River. Since the patio looked so inviting we decided we would stop in after we finished our walk. Unfortunately, we were disappointed to find the patio closed by the time we returned. It was such a shame as it was a rare, warm sunny afternoon. Since the cafe serves as the storefront of the Pacific Rim Brewing Company we decided to give it a try anyway. We found a couple stools at the bar and ordered a cold one. The cafe and brewery are located in an old warehouse along the water but thankfully the inside decor was funky and colorful unlike the somewhat drab exterior. There was a musician playing his version of mellow 70s music in one corner and a TV showing sports at the bar. We shared a couple seafood appetizers which were decent but nothing to rave about. Overall, nothing to rave about sums up the place, it had the potential to be so much more but it felt like the staff and management just didn’t care. Caution: Really a brew pub not a cafe. The place serves as a nightclub, replete with cover charge and loud music, on weekend nights. On street parking.

Adventures
Fort Clatsop (Lewis and Clark National Historical Park)
We started our trip to Fort Clatsop in the Visitor Center which houses excellent exhibits about the Corps of Discovery. There are several different movies shown throughout the day in the theater. A short walk away is the full-size replica of Fort Clatsop where the Lewis and Clark expedition spent the winter of 1805-06. The fort is staffed with rangers who were happy to answer questions and explain the layout of the fort. After touring the small fort we set off on one of the area’s several hiking trails. It was a pleasant walk along the Netul River to the canoe landing. The fort also has a small picnic area. During the summer months the list of daily activities is quite long, check the website or call for more information. There is a shuttle bus that runs during the summer months. Small fee.
