Elephant Butte State Park
This huge lake, the largest in the state, was formed by the damming of the Rio Grande in 1916. The water is used for irrigation but the lake is use for all kinds of outdoor recreation including; fishing, waterskiing, camping, etc. There are multiple access points along the western side of the lake with picnic grounds and camping areas but most of the facilities are near the south end, not far from Truth or Consequences. Our favorite area was not actually on the lake but below the dam at the campground and picnic area along the Rio Grande River. There were quite a few birds in that area and some fish in the water, too.
Caution: The road on the map that goes over the dam was closed during our visit and presumably still is.

Enchanted View RV Park
This small RV park was a good fit for our budget though it lacked a little in the looks department. It is an older park so the facilities, while clean, had seen better days and the sites were quite close together. It was a nice location within walking distance of the center of the very small town. Surprisingly, Elephant Butte has a neat walking path. There were quite a few long-term sites.
Caution: Limited services in Elephant Butte, all the basics are located in nearby Truth or Consequences.
