Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site
Samuel Clemens was born in a rented cabin in the small village of Florida. The family didn’t stay in Florida long before moving over to Hannibal on the Mississippi River. Amazingly, the cabin survived through the years and was finally moved to a specially designed building for protection. The site also includes a small museum with some neat artifacts (including original manuscripts) from the author’s life and an introductory video. The site is surrounded by the Mark Twain State Park with hiking trails and other activities available. The original cabin site is only a ΒΌ mile away and is denoted with a marker.
Hint: This museum may be a bit out of the way but it is by far the best Clemens related value in the area.
