Mammoth Cave National Park
Though the focus of this National Park and World Heritage Site is the long cave system there are numerous activities above ground also. From camping, hiking, and horseback riding to fishing or canoeing on the Green or Nolin Rivers. The park has several campgrounds, a hotel with three dining options near the Visitor Center, and a camp store, which sells basic sundries. There is also a small gas station and post office. Laundry facilities and showers are available at the camp store. While admission to the park is free, fees are charged for cave tours.
There is very limited access to the cave system without taking a tour. Hint: Arrive early to buy tour tickets or better yet, reserve them in advance either online or by phone since tours often sell out. Caution: It is dark down there and most of the tours require squeezing through tight spaces and have several flights of stairs. It is cold down there so dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes, they will not let you on a tour in flip-flops. Also no bags of any kind are allowed in the cave. You can take a camera (just not the camera bag).
