Eateries
Longstreet Cafe
This locally owned place serves up an ever changing menu of southern comfort food cafeteria style. Of course I had to try the
fried green tomatoes. Though they were not as crispy as I had hoped they were quite flavorful. To bad we didn’t make it back for
breakfast, the menu was so tempting! The prices were quite reasonable and the food really did taste homemade.

Adventures
Northeast Georgia History Center
The building is a bit hard to find as it is on the campus of Brenau University. A good overview of the history of the northern Georgia Mountains. I was especially interested to learn about the devastating tornado of 1936, Chief White Path, and the story behind the Mark Trail comic strip. Plan carefully as the museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Roosts
River Forks Park
Although the park is pretty and we appreciated that the multiple campgrounds are spread out along the shore of Lake Lanier we did not enjoy our stay there. The bathhouses were clean but the showers were hard to use (had to hold the nozzle on the entire time, trust me- one handed showering is difficult). The park was staffed with teenagers who, in our case, did not disseminate the correct information. Conveniently located just south of town the park, with its fishing, swimming and other recreational facilities, certainly has the potential to be a wonderful place to stay.
