Georgia
We found Georgia to be genteel and fiercely proud of its long history (it was one of the original thirteen colonies after all) yet not trapped in the past. The Peach State is the third fastest growing state in the country, which was especially apparent in the Atlanta area. We started in the mountains of northern Georgia, which claim the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail and the nation’s first gold rush then we wandered out along the coast. Of course, we also explored several Civil War sites and part of Okefenokee swamp.
