Pea Soup Andersen’s
On the road to Buellton we passed old billboards with peeling paint advertising this restaurant but probably wouldn’t have stopped if we had just been traveling through. The Danish inspired decor evident on the outside is continued in the gift shops, bakery area full of pastries, and dining room. Lance dove into a bottomless bowl of their famous split pea soup, while I opted for a grilled portabello sandwich since I am not a split pea fan. Both were quite tasty, Lance managed to get through three bowls and I even thought the soup was good. The restaurant was clean and full, even late in the afternoon, and we enjoyed the silly cartoons of their mascots, Hap-Pea and Pea-wee. If you are looking for a fine dining experience you won’t get it there but you will get a decent meal at a decent price plus you’ll get a bit of historic roadside charm.
