Sweetwater County Park

This small park is located just ten miles south of downtown San Diego on a hilltop overlooking the Sweetwater Reservoir. On clear days you can see (and smell, when the wind is right) the Pacific Ocean. They have tent camp sites as well as sites with water and electric. There is a dump station and bathhouse. The campground also has several campsites for equestrians with corrals. There is access to an extensive trail system nearby. During our stay there was a massive construction project nearby but we found the disruption to be minimal. We liked the central grassy area, it was a good place to play frisbee or other such games. This county run park offers camping in a nice setting at a very reasonable rate compared to the commercial RV parks in the area. Caution: It can get hot in the summer. Thankfully there are plenty of large trees to shade most of the campsites.
