Doran Regional Park
Located on a sandspit between Bodega Bay and Bodega Harbor the park offers a boat launch, fish cleaning station, picnicking, fishing, beachcombing, kiteflying, and camping. It was very windy which explained all the kites. It was also a very busy park with people everywhere which made for difficult birdwatching. There are a few short hiking trails available. Small entrance fee.
Address: 201 Doran Beach Rd
Bodega Head (Sonoma Coast State Park)
Part of the Sonoma Coast State Park, Bodega Head is a tall rocky headland that protects Bodega Harbor. The views from the top, weather allowing, are amazing. In the fall and early spring the area is renowned for gray whale watching. Birdwatching is also popular. The spring wildflowers are short but beautiful. There are picnic tables, outhouses, and trails available. From the trails you can scramble down onto your own private beach area. Lower down on the harborside is a popular crabbing area, a kayak launch, and the”Hole in the Head”, a freshwater pond. Caution: Trails follow along the top of the cliff, watch your footing. Free.
Address: North of Bodega Bay on coast Hwy 1, turn left at the intersection of Eastshore Rd. At the bottom of the hill turn right onto Bay Flat Road.
Drive around the harbor past Westside Park. Follow the sign for Campbell Cove where the road takes a sharp right. Drive up the hill, bear right at the fork to the parking lot.
