Patagonia Lake State Park

Created by the damming of Sonoita Creek the 265-acre Patagonia Lake became a state park in 1975. The small lake is popular with anglers as it has crappie, bass, bluegill, and catfish and during the winter it is stocked with trout. Most types of boats are allowed, it is even possible to water ski there.

The park offers both undeveloped and water-electric campsites each with table and grill, a beach, bathhouses, dump station, covered picnic areas, boat ramp, marina (with boat rentals), and a market that sells everything from fishing licenses to bait to food. We’ve never camped there, our visits to the park were centered on birdwatching along the water’s edge—a wide variety of birds call the area home, including the resplendent Elegant Trogon. Caution: If you are camping there be aware that the park entrance is closed from 11 PM to 4 AM.
