Erin at Monahans Sandhills[mp4 6.4MB, 1 min 1 sec] (Alternative: view on YouTube)

This video shows Erin walking around in her element: outside taking pictures. I tried to be quiet so you could hear the silence; but the resulting audio just sounds like wind noise… oh well. I took this out during one of our evening [...]

These two videos go with our Horsin’ Around in Kentucky post. Both clips are from the Kentucky Horse Park’s “Parade of Breeds” where visitors can watch and learn about a wide variety of horse breeds from around the world.

They typically have two different shows daily—we went to both and were excited to watch and learn. [...]

Niagara Falls[mp4 8.8MB, 2min 21 sec]

Erin and I had a beautiful day to explore the Niagara Falls area. It was a hot, sunny day in late summer, so the mist felt good on our faces. It was like a natural air conditioner—as soon as you left the edge of the falls, you were hot again.

Though [...]

Our time on Mount Desert Island was wonderful; we enjoyed lots of outside time. Here are two videos of our adventures there, including a whale watch boat trip and a sea kayaking trip.

Of note in both clips is the calm sea—we were lucky to have two very nice days out on the water. It had [...]

Foghorn and Windsurfer

Filed under: Video by Lance on 7/17/2007

Our first video from our time in Rhode Island is the fog horn at the Beavertail Lighthouse on Jamestown Island (officially Conanicut Island.) I am posting this more for the sound than the image, to be honest. It was a very foggy day at Beavertail, and the fog horn was so loud that it dominated [...]

This female Yellowbelly Slider was really going fast—either to get to her nest or just after she left her nest to get back to the water. Erin shot this video when we visited Old Charles Towne (near Charleston, SC).

Old Gruene Hall

Filed under: RV & Travel & Video by Erin on 3/20/2007

During our time in San Antonio we were exposed to the city’s early cultures: Indian, Spanish, and Mexican. A later culture that settled in the area was German; at one time German settlers comprised a third of all residents and this rich heritage is still infused in San Antonio. We didn’t fully experience this [...]

Rio Grande Wild Turkeys

Filed under: Video by Lance on 3/9/2007

This short clip features two male Rio Grande Wild Turkeys who were trying to intimidate us. Apparently they felt we were a bit too close to their women (there were two males and about twenty females in this group).

Their display of bravado included puffing up their feathers to appear bigger, loud clucking, and stalking [...]

One of our treats in Albuquerque happened at the Pueblo Indian Cultural Center. Since we were there on a weekend we were able to watch an exhibition of various Native American dances.

Swollen Animas River

Filed under: RV & Travel & Video by Lance on 11/24/2006

The swollen Animas River was amazing to watch as the muddy water carried huge logs downstream. The water was bank to bank and lapping up against a couple benches and picnic tables in some low areas.

See our Farmington, New Mexico post for more on this river and the northern New Mexico area.

Ogden Water Skier

Filed under: RV & Travel & Video by Lance on 11/10/2006

One day in Ogden, Utah, Erin was heading into town from our RV park and paused by the local pond. A day or two earlier, upon seeing the small body of water just outside town, we wondered at the double row of pylons or buoys in the water. My vote was that it was a [...]

Last Day in the City by the Bay

Filed under: Travel & Video by Erin on 10/5/2006

My ride into the city took longer this time, first the high-speed electric train was late, then we were further delayed while a bomb sniffing dog checked out the entire train. There was nothing in the news about it but I wondered if it was related to the plane plot that British authorities uncovered the [...]

This is the last video clip from our 2006 Europe trip. While in Villablino, Spain, we took several spectacular walks through the mountains and valleys of northwest Spain with my parents. All over the hillsides and in villages were animals: sheep, goats, cows, dogs, cats, and of course, horses!

Crab Feeding Time

Filed under: Travel & Video by Lance on 6/4/2006

As we walked along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea last month, we often saw remarkable things. On one such occasion, Erin spotted a crab sitting on a rock, feeding plant life off the rock and into its mouth. It was sitting at the water’s edge, on the main city pier of Alicante, Spain.

We tried [...]
