		<description>Oh, the Serpent Mound! That is one impressive earthwork - thanks for reminding me of it, Leah. It is surprising that I have never visited the Serpent Mound, especially when one considers all the time I&#039;ve spent in Ohio and my interest in archaeology. 

Of course, now I&#039;ll need to make a notation in this post and mention Ohio&#039;s two effigy mounds, the one you mentioned and the Alligator Mound near Granville. Though there are conflicting dates, many researchers think both the Ohio mounds and the effigy mounds in the Mississippi River Valley were constructed contemporaneously.
