I have fond memories of a 1950's-type soda shop on Hwy 66 10-15 years ago--ahad a great hot fudge sundae. I'd recommend, if you're not already familiar with it, Marc Reisner's book, Cadillac Desert. A great book about the water problem(s) of the American West. All of those grassy lawns in Vegas! The book was recommended to me by a volunteer ranger at Saguaro National Park East several years ago. Great canyon photos, by the way. It's sort of amazing how, no matter how many picture's you've seen of the canyon, it's still almost unbelievable when you first see it. No pictures can do it justice.
