Site Refresh for Spring 2008

Filed under: Site Updates by Lance on 3/12/2008

Fresh for Spring 2008, we have a new look here on Travel Adventures with Lance and Erin. If you only read our blog via RSS, take a minute to open our site in your web browser and view the changes.

The first thing you will notice is the color scheme. The white and gray tones are now replaced with a theme called “Neutral Blue” (based on a color palette found on Kuler). Gone is the “RV logo” since our site focus is above and beyond the motorhome—we want it to showcase all of our travel adventures, not just those that involve the RV. Plus we no longer have the style of RV depicted in the old logo. (I do miss that logo, though. Sigh.)

Other improvements include:

  • larger text size
  • less “boxy” layout
  • wider main content area
  • less cluttered sidebar, with most of the items relating to past blog posts moved to the Archives page
  • the search form moved to the top of the page
  • site navigation is prominently displayed under the header

Behind the scenes, I’ve done quite a bit of work with Google Maps. You’ll see this in two places: the interactive map on the top of the home page, and the USA and state maps on the Locations pages. Instead of a plain image that just shows you the map, you can now pan and zoom to your heart’s content. One feature I really love is the “context” map in the lower right of the maps—click the arrow there and you will get a small map of the larger area to help orient you. You might also notice that all the maps use the new Terrain view rather than the Map or Satellite view.

In another big change for the site, we no longer host our photos here. The Photos landing page still exists, highlighting a random rotation of our favorite photos. All our photos are still available on Flickr, and as always we’ll post a link to the Flickr photos at the bottom of every blog entry.

If you see anything that needs attention, please contact us so we can take care of it. Hope you enjoy!

As a “senior citizen” with deteriorating eyesight; I truly appreciate the changes! Love it! Please keep on writing and posting your pics…a highlight of my day.

Yeah, Leah, that’s just what we were hoping – that it would be easier to read. Thanks for the encouraging words!

Hey Lance! Love the new map features. Erin, I’ve been reading the posts from Tucson and they bring back a lot of good memories from my years in the Old Pueblo. I think it’s awesome that you were able to stay there for 4 months. I will only be there for the day/evening on Saturday…Sigh. But, I will get to see at least one beautiful Tucson sunset and the moon will be full to illuminate the Stone House valley in Starr Pass.
