Acadia Adventure Videos
Our time on Mount Desert Island was wonderful; we enjoyed lots of outside time. Here are two videos of our adventures there, including a whale watch boat trip and a sea kayaking trip.
Of note in both clips is the calm sea—we were lucky to have two very nice days out on the water. It had been windy and rough for the week prior to the whale watch, and the trip was scheduled for the day before but got canceled due to high seas and fog. The day we went out dawned sunny, clear, and calm.
This video has three parts: first, the departure from Bar Harbor so you can see the calm seas and the beautiful day; second, the two humpback whales that swam around us; and third is the dual tail fluke that the whales left us with. I had to remove the audio from the first two parts—there was a baby screaming in the background—Erin and I fill in with some impromptu narration instead.
Our sea kayak trip was four hours of fun. We paddled two-seater kayaks around the northeastern corner of Mount Desert Island with a stop for lunch on a beach. The water was the smoothest I’ve seen salt water: not a ripple was to be seen. It made for great wildlife viewing as we could spot seal heads and porpoise fins far away. We rode the tide out paddling leisurely and enjoying the day.
