Family and Friends in Arizona
It’s amazing, four months doesn’t seem like that long and yet so much has happened! Not only to us but to our friends and family in Arizona too. That’s why we were thrilled to be able to visit over Thanksgiving, to catch up on all the changes. We stopped in Portal for a couple days on our way to Tucson where we were able to spend time with Paula, Harry, Eileen and Tom.
Paula and Harry have done a beautiful job remodeling their old school house in the past few months. They have much more to do but they are off to a great start!
Eileen and Tom are healthy as ever after a brief health scare on Eileen’s part. The paramedics were so worried about her that she was airlifted to Tucson. I told her next time she wants a helicopter ride she should just ask, she doesn’t have to go and get sick for one!
In Tucson we had dinner over at Coralie’s house. She just returned from the annual AARP meeting in Anaheim. Lance thinks I should go with her to the next one, since I recently received an AARP card in the mail.
I’m not that old! I don’t know why but I’ve been getting mail from them since college, must be because I am so mature, ha! Actually, after hearing Coralie tell all about her trip, it does sound like fun.
She saw Bill Cosby (we love his humor), Maya Angelou (amazing woman and poet) and Scott Adams (the creator of Dilbert and a great blog) speak! For Thanksgiving Coralie was heading down to Cholla Bay, Mexico with family. And she wonders where I got the travel bug.
Desiree and Scott are adjusting to Scott’s new schedule. He recently graduated from the police academy and is an officer out at the Tucson International Airport (the first municipally owned airport in the country). His first shift is nights from 6 pm to 6 am—yikes! Sometime in December he’ll switch to days and after that, who knows…
They’re not the only ones adjusting to a new schedule. Our friends Aaron and Jenny welcomed their first child, Nate, on October 4th and he’s been keeping them busy ever since. We were able to spend some time with him and he’s a cutie pie. He is really tall (like Aaron) and has tons of dark hair (like Aaron, well maybe a little more than that!). Talk about dominant genes! Cool thing is that Aaron will be able to work for Summit Hut from home when Jenny returns to her math teaching job.
Meanwhile, Andrew, Heidi and Jed’s son, the first grandchild for Tom and Libby (Lance’s parents), is over a year old and has started walking! He was active and fast before we left and now he’s all over the place. I bet our cats are glad we aren’t staying there now. At least when we were there he was still crawling and they could outrun him.
Cammy and Hank have been thriving. Cammy recently completed some of her goals and she is riding high on her sense of accomplishment—way to go! We almost didn’t recognize Hank, he’s been letting his hair grow—on his face and his head. Did he really say he was never going to cut it again?
Over lunch, Danny, who was also visiting for the holiday, filled us in on his recent trip to Thailand. He had such a wonderful time. Good thing he took a ton of pictures, that’s the kind of stuff you never want to forget. I think he might be hooked on the whole travel thing; he mentioned Belize a couple times.
Tori and Lori recently said goodbye to Ali, their cat for the past 17 years. After an appropriate period of mourning they adopted two adorable kittens. Aman Ra and Isis are rowdy but sweet and they bring untold amounts of pleasure to their new owners. Tori also started a new job recently, congratulations!
Jay and Cheryl are busy as ever. Although not too busy for a bite of dessert now and then. They also had a change of pets (family members). They must be good people because they were adopted by a sweet cat and you know how picky cats are.
Geoff and Lauren are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel on their projects. Lauren is wrapping up a semester at school and Geoff on a work thing. (We can’t tell you more than that, first because that’s about all we know and second because then we’d have to kill you. He works for Raytheon so it’s top secret.)
Brian, Lance’s friend from high school, may or may not be the groom in an arranged wedding in India. As soon as he finds out we’ll let you know. I guess it wouldn’t be all bad, it would certainly take all the stress and hassle out of dating.
In between spending time with all our friends and family we: visited our doctors, attended client meetings, worked, made repairs to our RV, put stuff in storage, ran errands, paid bills, scanned over 1,600 of my Grandma’s photos into the computer and squeezed in a University of Arizona Men’s Basketball game at McKale Center! Which by the way, they won quite handily 86 to 57 over Samford. We’d never even heard of Samford before, but hey, it was a chance to see the team and Coach O. Lute didn’t disappoint, he was out there arguing with the refs and being dramatic. He obviously loves the game!
We savored the 80 degree days and mild nights. The weather was perfect, especially since we were riding our bikes everywhere. Needless to say we really enjoyed our visit to Tucson. Look out Texas, here we come!
