Cultural Exposure

Filed under: RV & Travel by Erin on 11/30/2006

Downtown Albuquerque has undertaken a massive redevelopment and revitalization project that so far appears to be working. We spent part of an afternoon here in 2002 (our Amtrak train had a two and a half hour layover) and it seemed like everything was under construction. This time the city was much easier to navigate—especially on [...]

Fiesta Time in Albuquerque

Filed under: RV & Travel by Erin on 11/27/2006

We reached Albuquerque on a Friday evening near the end of the 34th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta (try saying that three times fast!). The hot air balloon Fiesta does for Albuquerque what the Gem and Mineral Show does for Tucson.

It brings in thousands of tourists who spend a ton of money and clog the [...]

Our home-on-wheels, which we have now dubbed “Sol Seeker”, is very happy to be back in the Southwest. Here, Erin caught her in Albuquerque, New Mexico, against a backdrop of the beautiful Sandia Mountains and a high-soaring hot air balloon.

Swollen Animas River

Filed under: RV & Travel & Video by Lance on 11/24/2006

The swollen Animas River was amazing to watch as the muddy water carried huge logs downstream. The water was bank to bank and lapping up against a couple benches and picnic tables in some low areas.

See our Farmington, New Mexico post for more on this river and the northern New Mexico area.

Watch the video: [...]

Farmington, Not Just for Farming Anymore

Filed under: Images & RV by Erin on 11/22/2006

While we were in Moab, planning where to go next, we discussed checking out the Durango and Silverton area of Colorado. For one reason or another we opted to go to Farmington, New Mexico instead. That turned out to be a great decision. While it rained heavily for three straight days in Farmington, the Durango [...]

Day Trip: Mesa Verde National Park

Filed under: Outdoor Adventures & RV & Travel by Erin on 11/18/2006

Even though it had been raining off and on all morning we were not deterred, we were going to Mesa Verde National Park and we were excited about it! Mesa Verde was the first cultural park in the National Park system. It was established on June 29, 1906 by President Teddy Roosevelt to protect the [...]

Day Trip: Arches, Dead Horse, and Canyonlands

Filed under: Outdoor Adventures & Travel by Erin on 11/16/2006

On our “weekend”, which happened to be Friday and Saturday, we toured Arches National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park and Canyonlands National Park. The first day we devoted to Arches NP. Arches began as a National Monument in 1929 and was rearranged, enlarged, then shrunk before becoming a National Park in 1970. The Park’s [...]

Moab! The place we’ve read about, heard about and dreamt about! There is so much to do here; it is an outdoor-lovers’ paradise. Hikers, mountain bikers, rock climbers, rafters, hunters, fishers and even off-roaders will all find plenty to do.

Moab serves as the hub for all these activities, a place to restock and [...]

Ogden Water Skier

Filed under: RV & Travel & Video by Lance on 11/10/2006

One day in Ogden, Utah, Erin was heading into town from our RV park and paused by the local pond. A day or two earlier, upon seeing the small body of water just outside town, we wondered at the double row of pylons or buoys in the water. My vote was that it was a [...]
