Small Town in Tuscany
Today, April 30th, we slept in for the first time in a few weeks. After a splendid breakfast laid out by our hostess Anunzia, we spent the morning reading books, writing in our journals, and just plain relaxing.
Around 11:00 AM we left to walk into town; it’s about a 10 minute walk through vineyards, country houses, and vegetable gardens. It was a very lazy day, even for the locals. We didn’t see very many shops open at all. Erin grabbed a slice of pizza from one of the open pizzerie, and we sat in a local park and watched people.
In Scandicci’s main plaza was an antique fair, and we walked through it to look at the old books, furniture, and odds and ends. Erin, ever the bargain shopper, unearthed an antique door pull made of white and blue ceramic tile; we bought it as a nice memento from our stay in Tuscany.
The rest of the day was mellow: sleep recovery, catching up on reading, and exploring the country roads behind our bed & breakfast. The rolling hills lead past vineyards and large farmhouses for miles and miles. There were plenty of fresh flowers along the village roads and we made a small bouquet to put in our room, picking a flower here and a flower there as we walked.
Today was a restorative and restful day in Scandicci, a small town in Tuscany.
