Devil’s Canyon, Toads and Moss
Devil’s Canyon! One of the many canyons near our new home in Superior that we have on our “explore” list.
Erin and I got out there one evening after work. It’s only about 10 minutes up Highway 60 towards Globe. We parked near the highway bridge that spans the canyon, and dropped on in.

One of the weirdest sights awaiting us was a white lattice of moss on the rocks in the canyon’s dry river bed. It almost looked like the fake cobwebs people put up at Halloween…
Anyway, Erin got some nice shots of it. Check out the photos: Superior Area Exploring.
Also of note in the canyon were some cool little amphibians. We saw a couple canyon tree frogs and a LOT of juvenile red spotted toads.
The toads were all over the cracked mud where pools of water had been just days before. When we approached, they all hopped at the same time and it appeared as if the ground was moving. They tried to get under rocks, but Erin captured a couple of them with the camera (also in the photos).
