Spring Hikes
This spring has been a wet one for southern Arizona, so my wife and I have tried to take advantage of the green growth and flowers as much as possible.
One such outing was to Cargodera Canyon, which I already wrote about. The thing is there are new pictures for you to look at, so I wanted to call attention to that wonderful hike again! Check out Aaron and Jenny’s adventure web site, under Photos. Great shots!
Another outing was to the Santa Catalina Mountains’ famed “Butterfly Trail”, which winds down the northeast slopes of Mount Bigelow (smaller brother to Mount Lemmon for those of you that don’t know the area).
It was a misty day and perfect for hiking when we left the car and headed down the trail. The flowers and trees were lit up for spring, and we also saw lots of growth in a previously burned area north and west of the trail. Again, Aaron and Jenny took great pictures.
Though it was a great day to begin with, after only a short way the weather turned bad and it started to hail and blow a little cold wind. We decided to turn back and head up to the Pie Cafe in Summerhaven atop Mount Lemmon to partake in some hot chocolate, cider, and of course… pie. Yummmmmy. Who said spring in Arizona couldn’t be spent around a hot fire sipping hot chocolate?
