1st Tucson Web Standards Meetup
Wow! Our first Tucson web standards meeting through the auspices of Meetup.com took place last Thursday at the ultracool “The B Line” pub on 4th Avenue.
It was great to meet new faces (one was truly a new Face) while instantly kicking off a much-needed discussion on the current state of “standards” regarding programming, web design, and blogging. I learned a lot just from our few hours together and I will definitely be back for more.
Just like Aaron my head is still spinning trying to process all the issues we talked about.
I hope the group grows for next time, since anyone in Tucson (or Phoenix for that matter) would benefit from the interaction. One special treat was to have Molly E. Holzschlag, a WaSP steering commitee member and web standards evangelist the world over. She wrote up the meetup too.
Unlike some of the readers that commented on her blog entry, I do believe that there is hope for tech- and web-friendly Tucson. The idea isn’t to give up and move to New York or San Francisco, but to take advantage of the resources and connections that are already here and grow something out of it.
