Bahia de Kino

Filed under: Outdoor Adventures by Lance on 2/10/2005

After a crazy Christmas season (Lance works in retail!), we needed a break from it all. The simplest solution was to get out of town…but where to go?

Originally we had thought Tuscany in January would be romantic and uncrowded with other tourists. Then we looked online at the average temperature in north central Italy for January and saw: 30 degrees F. Not good! We needed somewhere warmer!

Mexico seemed like a good choice mainly because of nicer weather even than Tucson (wow, that must be a nice place if it’s warmer than Tucson!). Also, we could drive down there, camp on the beach, cook some of our meals, and save some money that way.

So we headed to Kino Bay, Sonora, for 6 days of sun and relaxation. Here’s basically how it went:

  • Day 1: Drive down through Hermosillo, small hiccup at border.
  • Day 2 – 5: Beach, sun, naps, whales, birds, hiking, etc.
  • Day 6 – 7: Explore and come home.

It was fun, and we will definitely go back there since it was mellow and relaxing (not too touristy and expensive like other coastal getaways).

Looks spectacular. Of course, I saw the analog pictures already. Jenny and I need a beach vacation. We always ask each other: Mountains or Canyons. We always forget the Beach option.
