Cactus and Canyon Tree Frogs
We were hiking in the Santa Catalina Mountains (Tucson, Arizona) the last few weeks and saw some cool stuff. A cristate saguaro cactus in Pima Canyon was a real treat, and also a miniature tree frog that was hanging out on a rock (go figure). The frog was in Cargodera Canyon, north of Catalina State Park.

How small was that frog? It looks really tiny, but it’s hard to say exactly.
I wish I’d had a penny or paper clip with me, but the frog probably would’ve ran away it I’d tried to put it down next to it! Anyway, it was a little smaller than a square inch – about the size of my thumbnail!
It sure was tiny, and hard to see until you got really close since they blend into the rock really well (I’m still wondering why they are called “tree” frogs…)
